Happy Holidays C9 Community Members + friends!

We’ve had another year of exciting growth at Coalition9: 214 Members, 22 Groups, 7 SPARK Series Events, 24 SPARK Series Event Partners + Supporters, and 14 Community Supporters. And we can’t wait to introduce you to our 2024 C9 Community Supporters in January. We have a couple spots left if you want to get involved and be a part of our January kickoff. More details on that below.

As I reflect on the positive impact our C9 Community Members have had on each other and the greater community, I’m filled with pride and gratitude. This journey we’re on is important. It’s inspiring. And it’s also pretty damn fun. Thank you for walking this path with me and everyone else in our C9 Community.

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season, getting to spend time with family and friends, and embracing the things that bring joy to your life.

Member Abe Demmaj of Grass Roots Developers was recognized by Twin Cities Business as one of their TCB 100 people to know in 2024 for his continuing efforts in rebuilding East Lake Street after civil unrest in Minneapolis three years ago. Congratulations, Abe! It’s much deserved. Learn more.
Community Supporter Andy Schornack of Flagship Bank and Security Bank & Trust was also recognized as a TCB 100 people to know in 2024 for his work with entrepreneurs and small- and medium-sized businesses, as well as his 2024 appointment to the Minnesota Bankers Association chair position. Member Tom Hart of Boyer & Associates recently presented a scintillating 😏 software demo in a joint webinar with Microsoft. The topic was “Microsoft Cloud for Nonprofit” (MC4N), and he shared an overview of the what and why of MC4N, including AI Copilot, fundraising and engagement solutions, and more! Watch the video here

Some legal news from Members Scott Seiler and James Olsen of Seiler Law: If you own a small business, you will likely soon (2024) be subject to sweeping federal reporting requirements through the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA). It is critical that small businesses understand the new law and keep in compliance to avoid penalties. Owners and managers of small businesses should determine now whether their business is a reporting company under the CTA. If so, companies should gather the required information and implement a system to keep track of the reported information so that they know when updates need to be filed. Member Brian McClung of Park Street PR announced that they joined approximately 200 Minnesota companies in the Minnesota Keystone Program, which promotes corporate philanthropy by recognizing and honoring companies that donate at least 2% of their pre-tax earnings to charitable organizations. Minnesota Keystone was formed in 1973 by visionary leaders who wanted to encourage and celebrate business philanthropy. Park Street PR is one of five new companies in the program this year. November C9 Preparing for 2024 Event Recap

On Tuesday, November 14th, over 130 attendees joined us at Forgotten Star Brewing for a panel discussion on preparing for 2024. Some highlights include:

Talent strategy
Legislation changes + the impact on employees + business owners
Workplace culture
Health benefits
Evolution of healthcare around pharmaceuticals
The economy

The big takeaway was that even though the economy remains hard to predict, small- to mid-sized businesses are the great equalizers and can make positive change. Knowing that, we can head into the new year with optimism.
